Read the manufacturing date from the code.
Every genuine product has a «batch code»: three to eight characters usually engraved on the base of the bottle, tube, or box — not on a stuck-on label and not on the cap. Enter this code into one of the free tools below and see whether its manufacturing date makes sense. On boxed products, the code on the box and the bottle should match.
Warning signs: the code is not found in the database, the date is impossible (in the future or before the product launched), it has odd spacing or symbols, it is printed on a label instead of engraved, or the box and bottle codes do not match. Note that «not found» does not always mean fake; sometimes the product is simply new.
No single method is 100% certain; weigh a few signs together.
The most important preventive step: buy from the brand's official site or authorized sellers. Steer clear of unknown Instagram sellers and suspicious prices.

Scan the QR code; it should go to the brand's official domain and show that unit's status, not a generic promo page.
Some luxury brands use an NFC tag; tapping your phone confirms authenticity and is very hard to fake.
A genuine hologram shifts as you change the angle and carries a serial; the seal should be intact and tamper-resistant. A plain silver hologram means little.
Compare spelling errors, a different font or color, blurry print, or low-quality cardboard against the official sample.
A permanent 40–70% discount from an untrustworthy seller almost always means a fake or expired stock.
Check the listing photo in Google Lens or Yandex; an official photo paired with a very low price is suspicious.
